As one of the oldest higher education institutions in the country, Karadeniz Technical University does not have many opportunities for students with disabilities. However, the university is aware of the increasing involvement of disabled students in the public and hence started a great effort to transform its premises to help such students feel comfortable. The recent attempts include the construction of ramps on all the pavements and staircases on the main campus and building lifts in departmental buildings with no such facilities. The main thought is to have lifts and ramps for the use of disabled students in most of the buildings within a few years, if not all.
The main difficulty for students with special needs includes the lack of WC's and public transport vehicles suitable for them. This is not so easy task to get over and will take a little while to solve. However, we are aware of the problem and trying to find the means of getting this problem solved as soon as possible.
